The Origin of 21 Mukhi Rudraksha

The 21 Mukhi Rudraksha comes from the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree; it’s also primarily sourced from Nepal at an altitude of 900 to 1800 m and from Java in Indonesia.

Long before humanity measured time, there was a Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) involving Gods and demons, with the help of Mandara Parvat as a churning rod, Naag Vasuki as a churning rope, and Kurma as the base. After the Samudra Manthan, it drew Amrita or the immortality nectar. However, the first thing received after churning the ocean wasn’t the Amrit, but the Halahala that might have destroyed the entire creation on this earth. Terrified by the incident, all gods and demons prayed to Shiva for mercy; in return, he consumed the Halahala himself. His acts of compassion named him Neelkantha, after which, when he opened his third eye, radiating a cosmic energy and the supreme consciousness. This is the time when the 21 mukhi rudraksha originated from Lord Shiva’s third eye, embodying the ultimate fortunes of the Samudra Manthan.
