15 Mukhi Rudraksha Origin

The Shiva Mahapurana tells us that when Shiva opened his eyes after thousands of years of tapasya, tears fell from his three eyes. The Surya Netra, the Soma Netra, and the Agni Netra. Each eye gave birth to a different group of Rudraksha varieties.

The 15 Mukhi Rudraksha belongs to the group born from the Soma Netra, the Moon Eye of Lord Shiva. This is why this bead carries Soma's qualities: compassion, emotional healing, intuition, peace, nourishment, and grace that sustains life.

The tree that produces it, Elaeocarpus ganitrus, grows across the Himalayan belt and parts of Southeast Asia. The three main sources today are Nepal, India, and Indonesia. Nepal produces the most sought-after beads, large, dense, and deeply grooved, grown in the same Himalayan geography area. India grows this Rudraksha primarily in Uttarakhand, Assam, and Sikkim.

15 Mukhi Rudraksha Spiritual Significance

Pashupati is the ruling deity of this rudraksha. In the Shaiva path, every being is a pashu, tied by the rope of fear, desire and attachment. Shiva as Pashupati is the one who loosens that rope. This is the heart of the 15 Mukhi bead. It is worn to move, slowly, from emotional bondage towards emotional freedom.

How to Wear 15 Mukhi Rudraksha?

Step 1: Firstly, sprinkle some Gangajal on your body.

Step 2: If you are at home, then place the Rudraksha in front of Lord Shiva's picture or otherwise in a plate facing towards Shiva's Side.

Step 3: Worship the Rudraksha with Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra; also offer dhoop and flowers to Lord Shiva.

Difference Between Nepali and Indonesian 10 Mukhi Rudraksha

Nepal: Regarded as one of the holiest lands of Shiva. It carries the Himalayan belt where Nepali Rudraksha trees grow; here the Rudraksha have a very deep association with Tapasya, reunification, and divine protection.

The Panchdash Mukhi Rudraksha is connected with Pashupatinath’s compassion and awakening of the heart is believed to absorb the stillness, healing energy,y and spiritual intensity of the Himalayan belt.

Nepal-origin 15 Mukhi beads are known for their larger sizes, stronger density, and deeply defined natural grooves, whereas Indonesian beads grow mainly in Java and Bali at lower altitudes and in a different climate.

They are also genuine Rudraksha beads but naturally smaller, lighter, and smoother in texture. Their Mukhis are usually thinner and shallower compared to Nepal beads.

15 Mukhi Rudraksha: Dos and Don'ts

Wearing the 15 Mukhi Rudraksha is considered sacred, and it must be done with proper instructions. Also, there are some limitations on what to do and what you should not do when you’re wearing the 15 Mukhi Rudraksha mala/bracelet:

• Before wearing, chant ॐ नमः शिवाय
• Can be worn on the neck, chest, or right wrist.
• Keep the bead in direct contact with the skin.
• Apply Sandalwood or sesame oil lightly once a month.
• Store respectfully in the puja ghar when not in use.
• Replace the thread periodically once in three months.
• Perform abhishek on Ekadashi, Maha Shivaratri, and Vishnu- related festivals.

Don'ts

• Never wear it without chanting the mantra.
• Do not exchange your Rudraksha with others.
• Do not expose it to soap,  shampoo, or chemical perfumes
• Do not wear a bead that has cracked naturally.
• Do not throw casually into bags, drawers, or unclean places.
• Avoid tamsic habits and intoxication while wearing.
• Do not wear purely as fashion jewellery without reverence.
